Effects of alcohol on the skin
If you've started taking care of yourself or want to start, you'll see that alcohol is devastating to the condition of your skin, attacking it from so many angles that it will make you lose all desire for another drink.
First of all: Alcohol is a diuretic (and not a good one) that eliminates water from the body, leaving it dry and dehydrated. Did you know that a hangover headache is a consequence of the lack of water it leaves in the brain? Well, even though the skin doesn't hurt, a hangover will leave it flaky, dull, and with more pronounced wrinkles.
Alcohol contains sugar and causes inflammation in the skin, which damages small blood vessels. This is why we see redness and rosacea (visible veins on the face) in people who drink regularly. Wine is one of the worst offenders in this regard, as it requires a level of processing by the body that overloads the liver and can manifest as rosacea.
Finally, by attacking the immune system, acne breakouts are likely to worsen, leaving you not only dehydrated and with dry skin, but also with pimples.
It's not about living like a monk (although that helps). It's about limiting your consumption to very specific occasions and accompanying each alcoholic drink with a glass of water to rehydrate.
Finally, rest assured that if you completely stop drinking, your skin will be one of the first to show the benefits.
