Calisthenics: Pros and Cons
Share
Calisthenics is a physical training method that uses body weight to develop strength, endurance, balance, and coordination, without the need for equipment or weights.
It may be an incredible option, but like everything, it has pros and cons. Here they are:
✅ Advantages
No equipment, no excuses: all you need is your body. You can train at home, in the park, or wherever you want.
Real and functional strength: improve your body control, balance and coordination.
Core engaged 24/7: Almost every exercise involves the abdomen.
Endless progressions: from basic push-ups to advanced moves like muscle-ups and planches.
Less impact on joints (if you use good technique). Ideal for defining: improves strength without gaining unnecessary mass.
❌ Disadvantages
Gaining a lot of volume is more difficult (although not impossible): it depends on your routine and diet.
Some advanced exercises are frustrating: they require time, technique, and consistency. Legs are harder to work without extra weight.
Possible stagnation if you don't vary the exercises.
Without exact load control as with weights (no adding exact 5 kg, everything is technical here).
👉 Bottom line: Calisthenics is perfect for building strength, body control, and freedom of movement. But if your main goal is volume or working your legs to the max, you may need to complement it with a workout.
