Calisthenics: Benefits and drawbacks
Share
Calisthenics is a physical training method that uses body weight to develop strength, endurance, balance, and coordination without the need for equipment or weights.
It can be an incredible option, but, like everything, it has its pros and cons.

✅ PROS
No equipment, no excuses: you only need your body. You can train at home, in the park, or wherever you want.
Real and functional strength: it improves body control, balance, and coordination.
Always active core: almost all exercises require good abdominal activation.
Infinite progressions: from basic push-ups to advanced movements like muscle-ups and planches.
Less impact in some routines: especially when working with good technique and proper progressions.
Good option for defining: it helps develop strength and muscle while maintaining a functional approach.
❌ CONS
Gaining significant bulk is harder (though not impossible): it depends on your training and nutrition routine.
Some advanced exercises can be frustrating: they require time, technique, and consistency.
Legs can be more difficult to work without additional weight.
Possible plateau: if you don't vary the exercises and progressions.
Less precise load control than with weights: you can't simply add 5 kg; progression depends much more on the technical difficulty of the exercise.
👉 IN SUMMARY
Calisthenics is an excellent way to develop strength, body control, and freedom of movement.
But if your main goal is to bulk up or maximize leg muscle development, you might want to supplement it with gym training.
SAFETY NOTE
Calisthenics requires correct technical execution and appropriate progression. If you are starting out, have any injury, medical condition, or doubts about your ability to perform certain exercises, consult a healthcare professional or qualified trainer beforehand.
Always listen to your body and adapt your training to your needs.
